As a beginner freelancer, finding confidence can be a crucial component to your success. When you feel confident, you take on opportunities with greater ease, and you’re more likely to put your ideas and expertise out there.
But how do you find confidence when you’re just starting out in the online world? Here are a few tips to get started:
More than 85% of the HerHQ students as a whole joined us, or started their own business with the assumption that they felt like they didn’t have a transferrable skill. We very quickly discredit our abilities and skills we’ve gained from our experiences and interests, but they all matter. Take some time to reflect on your skills and your passions and remember that they are your ‘secret sauce’ that sets you apart from everyone else.
It’s important to have people in your corner who understand the highs and lows of freelancing. Connect with other freelancers and entrepreneurs online or in person, and exchange advice, support, and inspiration. This can be particularly helpful when you’re feeling uncertain or need a sounding board for a new idea. If you’re actively looking to start freelancing online – but you’re not sure how in the heck to navigate this journey by yourself? YOU DON’T HAVE TO. Setting goals is an excellent way to build confidence as a freelancer, particularly when you’re just starting out. Instead of feeling like you’re adrift without a map, setting specific and achievable milestones helps provide a sense of direction and accomplishment. Be sure to track your progress along the way, and note how your actions have contributed to your success.
We are often our own toughest critics, and it’s easy to feel like you’re not doing enough or that you’re never quite achieving that elusive “perfect” work-life balance. But taking care of yourself through exercise, meditation, or hobbies outside of your work is essential to building confidence. When you feel good about yourself, your positive energy will likely spill over into your professional life.
Continuing to improve your skills and knowledge base is an excellent way to build confidence. Use resources available to you such as YouTube, Udemy, or Skillshare. Also if you didn’t know, I go live every Tuesday at 11am EST inside our free Facebook community to share TONS of good stuff for you to dig into and tips on how to get started with freelancing.
If you’re struggling to find confidence as a new freelancer, know that you’re not alone. But with time, effort, and the ability to recognize your achievements, you’ll be able to build a stronger sense of self-assurance and tackle your work with greater ease.
